Herbalist tips

This is an original Malcolm Harker tonic. Malcolm recommended:

  • taking this tonic straight, or added to 50ml of boiled water as a tea
  • avoiding mucus forming foods such as gluten, egg-white, chocolate, dairy, polyunsaturated oils and regular table salt
  • adopting gluten-free grain foods, whole foods (greens, fruits nuts, seeds), unprocessed coconut oil and Celtic & NZ Sea Salt with Kelp

With all his tonics, Malcolm also recommended using Intestinal Cleanse for 1-2 weeks to reduce parasite populations. By reducing the load on the body of parasites, the body is able to use nutrients from food and the active ingredients in his tonics more efficiently.

Menthol Crystals
Menthol Crystals
Mentha arvensis

A key ingredient in our respiratory tonics, menthol crystals are derived from distilling and freezing the oils in peppermint and other mint varieties. It interacts with the cooling receptors in the nasal passages, throat and bronchial tubes to provide the sensation opening of the airways for easy breathing. When ingested, inhaled or applied topically to the skin, it has the sensation of cooling and is often used to cool skin in preparations for the chest and joints.

Elecampane
Elecampane
Inula helenium

A wonderful herb for respiratory health, especially a productive cough where it thins and loosens excess mucus in the lungs and airways. It also acts as an expectorant, to support the expulsion of that excess mucus from the lungs, making it easy to breathe. Elecampane contains compounds with antimicrobial properties, which contribute to its traditional use in supporting respiratory illness. The high level of mucilage in this herb is also soothing for the lining of the lungs.

Marshmallow
Marshmallow
Althea officinalis

Marshmallow is most commonly used to ease sore throats and dry coughs. It contains polysaccharides that work as a mucilage, producing a thick, sticky substance that coats the mucuous membranes. The flavonoids in Marshmallow contain anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritated membranes. In Russia, the root syrup is sold without prescription by pharmacies to treat minor respiratory ailments.
